The brand

America’s oldest dance brand.

In 1887, Salvatore Capezio opened a shoe repair shop steps from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Dancers started stopping in. When Anna Pavlova came to the US on her first tour in 1910, she purchased Capezio pointe shoes for herself and her entire company. Capezio didn’t just make shoes — the brand helped invent the modern leotard in the 1940s and established National Dance Week in 1978.

For nearly 140 years the company remained family-owned before being acquired by Argand Partners in April 2025, with key family members remaining as investors. The brand’s identity and product lines continue unchanged.
